Android XR users will have access to adapted versions of YouTube, Photos, Maps and the Chrome browser, and will also be able to use Google Play applications, which were originally intended for smartphones and tablets, the message clarifies.

The new operating system integrates the Gemini AI assistant, which will allow you to “converse about what you see” and control the headphones. The company explained that the neural network will be able to understand a person’s intentions, help make plans, investigate any topic and give advice.

Bloomberg noted that the partnership between Google and Samsung will give them the opportunity to compete with Apple and Meta*, which already have similar devices. Apple currently sells the Vision Pro augmented reality headset and Meta* sells Ray-Ban smart glasses.

In addition, Android XR will allow several companies to develop their own augmented reality devices, taking advantage of Google’s achievements in the field of AI, Bloomberg writes. In this way, Google will be able to replicate the success it had with the mobile version of Android, which is used by most major smartphone brands.

*Meta is recognized as an extremist organization and is banned in Russia.
