“The creative sector has become an important component of the Russian economy, contributing 3.5% of GDP and 3.7% of income. This is comparable, for example, with the share of agriculture, forestry, hunting, fishing and fish farming (3.7% of Russia’s GDP),” the report on the results of the work states.
He says the areas of greatest economic scale were software development, advertising and public relations, as well as fashion. They represented 49% of companies, 66% of individual entrepreneurs and 60% of the income of the entire creative sector.
According to experts, a total of 4.6 million people work in the creative economy, which represents 6.2% of the total number of employees in Russia. This indicator takes into account not only employees of creative companies, but also representatives of creative professions in other types of economic activity, for example, designers in banks.
The study was carried out in pilot mode by the Institute of Statistical Research and Knowledge Economy of the Higher School of Economics, as well as by Reksoft Consulting and Bureau K22, commissioned by the Agency for Strategic Initiatives. The results of the work should compensate for the authorities’ lack of information on the creative industries to formulate future policies in this area, Kommersant noted.
The calculations are based on official statistics for 2023 and are based on a specially developed collective classification group “Creative Sector”, which includes 17 creative industries and four segments of related activities.
