Negotiations are also underway with the leaders of the Russian television market. It should be noted that, if successful, Yandex may surpass Android TV in popularity. The company itself confirmed the negotiations to the publication, but did not specify with whom exactly they were being carried out. Haier, TCL and Huawei did not respond to the newspaper’s request.

According to STI Group strategic development director Kirill Skvortsov, currently about 30% of TVs sold in Russia reach consumers with YaOS preinstalled, another 50% run on Google’s Android TV. About 20% of devices work with Salyut-TV from Sberbank. The popularity of Android TV, according to him, is due to the lower cost of the software compared to Russian developers.

“In 2025, Sber will launch its own production of televisions, where Salyut-TV will be installed,” Skvortsov recalled. “The share of YaOS and Salyut-TV in the Russian market will increase in parallel.”

According to the head of the procurement department of 3Logic Group, Maxim Rodionov, Yandex’s main “trump card” will be the ability to integrate its television operating system with the rest of the services in its ecosystem, including the virtual assistant “Alice”. which will elevate YaOS’s position in the eyes of manufacturers.

Director of the Consumer Electronics Department of OCS, Vladislav Borodin, noted that large Asian brands, such as Samsung, LG or Hisense, prefer to use their own shells on Android, including Tizen, WebOS and ViDAA, whose share together can reach 30% of the Russian market. market.

“Given the existing restrictions on the operation of some Google services in Russia, the transition to national operating systems for television seems quite justified,” Borodin said. The expert suggested that Yandex’s monetization of its operating system could consist of both commissions for devices with the operating system and the sale of additional services, advertising and subscriptions within YaOS.
