On Wednesday, December 18, the Rospotrebnadzor department in the Sverdlovsk region reported that two residents of Yekaterinburg fell ill with botulism after eating canned fish of the “For the Fatherland” brand. The sprats were produced by LLC “Fish Factory “For the Motherland””, registered in the Kaliningrad region.

According to one of the victims, the canned goods were bought “in a minimarket from a stranger from a truck.” The remains of the products were examined by specialists from the Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology of the Sverdlovsk region, botulinum toxin was found in them and in the blood of the victims.

Rospotrebnadzor said that the condition of women with botulism is considered serious. The agency handed over the data to law enforcement “to find the seller” and asked residents of the region “not to buy food products in unidentified places.”
