Instagram* users will be able to edit videos using artificial intelligence. The new functionality will allow them to “change almost any aspect of the video by writing a simple text request,” its director Adam Mosseri said on his social media page.

According to him, the AI editor will allow you to change the background, clothing and even the appearance of a person in the video, as well as add objects and characters. Instagram* users will be able to try it out in 2025. The new feature is based on the AI model developed by Movie Gen’s Meta*, Mosseri added.
He demonstrated the skills of the new editor in the announcement video: in the video, Mosseri’s clothes are changed several times and the Eiffel Tower, a snowy landscape or an autumn forest appears in the background. At one point, a gold chain appears around Mosseri’s neck, while the rest of his clothing remains unchanged; at another, he becomes a felt doll sitting in a meadow.
Meta* first introduced its video generation model in October. The company says Movie Gen can create “long-form, high-definition videos” based on text queries, as well as edit existing videos while “preserving human personality and motion.” It is not specified when the technology will be available to users.
Adobe and OpenAI also presented their solutions for video generation. The Firefly Video model is already used in the beta version of the Adobe Premiere Pro video editor. OpenAI’s Sora model was released on December 9. For now, it is only available to paid ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscribers.
*Meta and its Instagram and Facebook are recognized as extremist organizations in Russia and their activities are prohibited.
