The affected devices are mostly located in Russia, China, India, Belarus, Brazil and Ukraine. The botnet has the ability to commit ad fraud, spread misinformation, and use infected devices as proxies for criminal activities. It may also download additional viruses, increasing risks for users, the researchers write.

In Germany, the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) blocked communication between 30,000 infected devices and the C2 server, but the operation did not have a significant impact outside the country.

Yandex press service reported that the company’s security service has already detected the problem and is actively working to resolve it. In addition, Yandex updated the software of all affected TVs, improving their security.
