Roscosmos is preparing for the new launch of the Soyuz-2.1b rocket from the R-7 family, scheduled for December 25. Designed for extremely detailed perception of the world, Resurs-P No. 5 satellites will be launched into orbit. The government agency announced that the rocket has already been assembled and its lift to the launch pad is planned for December 23.
The Resurs-P series includes Russian satellites with imaging resolutions of less than one meter per pixel, allowing the creation of detailed three-dimensional surface models. These devices are equipped with a unique tool for accelerated data processing and stereoscopic imaging. Previously, the fourth satellite of this series was launched into orbit in March, and 10 more satellites were planned to be launched for Roshidromet’s needs by the end of the year.
Information received from satellites helps monitor the state of natural resources, monitor the environmental situation and monitor protected areas. Roscosmos added that the data could also be useful for Russia’s international cooperation on environmental protection and solving other problems related to remote monitoring of the Earth.
