“Failure to comply with the law may result in Apple no longer being able to operate the App Store or distribute content in that country,” an Apple spokesperson told RSF.

At the same time, Apple emphasized that the US government supports “the availability of communications services for the Russian population,” as this is necessary to support “democratic principles.”

The organization recalls that last month Apple removed three podcasts belonging to media outlets from the Russian App Store: The Insider Live (the Insider publication is recognized as a foreign agent and an undesirable organization, its activities are prohibited in the Russian Federation), “What was that?” from the BBC and “Echo” (the “Moscow Echo” radio station was liquidated). In October, the company blocked the application of the television channel “Current Time” (recognized as a foreign agent).

Before this, in 2023, Apple, at the request of Roskomnadzor, removed the podcasts of the publication “Medusa” from its platform (the media is recognized as a foreign agent and an undesirable organization, its activities are prohibited in Russia) and “Kholod” (recognized as a foreign agent).
