The rights of The Walt Disney apply to the Walt Disney trademark in classes 03, 09, 14, 16, 21, 24, 25, 28, 41. Rights are reserved for shampoos, computer games, watches, jewelry, clothes, games and others. consumption of consumer goods. Protection also extends to upbringing, education and entertainment.
The Walt Disney Company suspended its operations in Russia in March 2022, including production and content licensing, due to the military operation. On March 1, the company temporarily stopped supplying its films to the country. After March 10, Disney planned to suspend “all other commercial activities” in Russia, such as content and product licensing, Disney Cruise Line, National Geographic magazine and the television channel of the same name.
In May 2022, The Walt Disney terminated the Walt Disney brand licensing agreement with Walt Disney Company CIS LLC, but in December of the same year it entered into a sublicensing agreement with it. In 2023, this Russian structure made a net profit of 500 million rubles.
As Alina Sidorova, a patent lawyer at the Online Patent company, told RB.RU, foreign companies are renewing trademark registration in Russia in order not to lose rights to trademarks. In addition, this helps prevent illegal use of designations and makes it possible to demand compensation of up to 5 million rubles for violations.
In December, the American Apple also renewed the rights to the brand in Russia.
