The Verge experts commented on these announcements: “27-inch 4K OLED monitors with a frequency of 240 Hz are like buses: you wait a long time for one, and then three stop at once.”
All three models use the same fourth-generation QD-OLED panel from Samsung Display, which Asus says “has a longer lifespan than previous generation OLED panels.”
Both the Asus ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM and MSI MPG 272URX QD-OLED support DisplayPort 2.1a (UHBR20), which provides 80Gbps throughput to support 4K at 240Hz without the need for streaming video compression. Samsung’s press release for the Odyssey OLED G8 (G81SF) doesn’t mention support for DisplayPort 2.1a, but it’s reasonable to assume it’s on the features list.
The MSI and Asus models support DisplayHDR True Black 400, while the Asus also supports Dolby Vision HDR. And MSI. Asus offers a three-year warranty that includes burn protection. Samsung has not confirmed warranty terms for its latest G8 model.
Unfortunately, neither Samsung, Asus, nor MSI have yet announced release dates and prices in their announcements.
