The data, including the user’s device, browser and IP address, was transferred via Amazon Web Services and ended up on *Meta Platforms servers in the United States without “adequate safeguards”; which violated GDPR rules.

The court ruled that the EU did not comply with privacy rules and decided to impose a fine of 400 euros on the person who filed the case.

GDPR, which aims to protect personal data and give users more control over their information, has resulted in serious fines for companies such as *Meta and Amazon.

But its impact on reducing surveillance practices was rated “questionable” by experts.
