According to them, paid registration could be introduced as early as February 2025. Users who pay $8 will be able to publish and will also receive a free month of X Premium, which comes with a verification badge.
Fortune previously reported on Musk’s plans to introduce a $1 registration fee for users in the Philippines and New Zealand as an experiment. According to the publication’s sources, Musk considers introducing a fee for the use of the platform as the “only way” to make it profitable.
The billionaire also suggested that X’s management explore the possibility of removing dates from users’ posts. The initiative caused concern among employees, who considered it one of the steps to weaken the fight against misinformation on the platform and fundamentally change the functionality of X. According to Musk, the innovation will improve the user interface, since “every pixel is important”. for him, noted one of the sources.
However, according to Fortune’s interlocutors, the innovation may remain in development for a long time or may be canceled shortly after its launch, as was the case with the decision to remove titles from link previews.
