A screenshot allegedly taken by a GameStop employee confirms that Nintendo plans to release 256GB ($49.99) and 512GB ($84.99) microSD cards, further confirming the high-speed standard.

Samsung, which created the format, previously said microSD Express offers SSD-like performance with sequential read speeds of up to 800 MB/s, which is 4 times faster than traditional UHS-1 cards.

The move to a new format will allow Nintendo Switch 2 to support modern gaming requirements such as fast data streaming in large virtual worlds.

Nintendo promises to officially unveil the console in the first quarter of 2025, and rumors continue to shed light on the console’s key features.
