In particular, two workers at Tesla’s gigafactory in Austin, Texas, told the publication that management informed them that the team working on the Cybertruck would be cut and production of parts for the truck would be reduced proportionately in the first quarter of 2025. . At the factories in Fremont, California, and Sparks, Nevada, where the Cybertruck is not assembled, no changes to work schedules were reported, Business Insider notes.

According to sources, the reason for the reorganization is the increased sales of the Tesla Model Y. Interlocutors of the publication noted that changes in production schedules occur very rarely in the company and are usually associated with the release of a new model of car to market.

Previously, Tesla employees told Business Insider about short-term suspensions of Cybertruck production in early December, presumably caused by a lack of quality batteries. In April 2024, Tesla reduced the length of Cybertruck assembly shifts by one hour.

In 2024, Tesla’s worldwide sales showed a 1.1% decline for the first time since 2011. To achieve the goal of increasing sales by 20 to 30% in 2025, the automaker will need to launch a car priced at about $35,000, aimed at the middle-class buyer. This could be the new version of the Model Y crossover, said Morningstar analyst Seth Goldstein.
