The development of electronics has led to the fact that the sockets in the apartments simply cannot cope with the number of consumers. TV, set-top box, sound bar, game console, router, chargers for laptop, camera, smartphone and tablet, and this is just one of the connection points. Often you have to combine several tops and extensions, which not only looks rather ugly, but also unsafe – it is enough to give one link slack, and everything can burn.
Fortunately, the Harper UCH-650 surge protector caught my eye. There are up to 8 ports for grounded European plugs, and there’s also a built-in charger for three USB-A ports and one USB-C. The gadget is capable of supporting a load of 4000 watts, which is more than usual. Alone, it can provide electricity to all household appliances in the room, and mobile devices with fast charging, and various protection systems provide an adequate level of security.

Equipment
The Harper UCH-650 is supplied in a cardboard box together with an instruction manual and a 12-month warranty card. The filter is additionally packed in a film with “grains”. Models are available in black and white cases. For those who do not need such a large number of plug connectors, the manufacturer has models with five and three plugs.

Design
The angular rectangular filter housing, which has quite impressive dimensions (297x104x40 mm) and weight (610 g without cable), is made of fire-resistant matte ABS plastic (up to 850 °C). The material resists dirt and dust quite well. The device looks very modern and does not look like a black sheep compared to the rest of the equipment.

The assembly is of high quality: there is no looseness inside, the seams are clean, there is also no strange smell. There are eight silicone pads on the bottom panel that increase the grip coefficient and prevent scratches on the supporting surface.

Hidden underneath are screws with triangular slots that hold the two halves of the filter together. Unfortunately, I was unable to unscrew them due to the lack of a suitable drill bit. Nearby are a pair of “lugs”, thanks to which the Harper UCH-650 can be mounted vertically.

A thick power cord in body-colored plastic braid is 5m long and 8mm in diameter, Velcro is provided to fix excess. It consists of three cores with a cross section of 1.5 square meters. mm, which can withstand loads of up to 4 kW, transmitting a current of 16 A, so the Harper UCH-650 can be used to connect serious household appliances such as washing machines or electric kettles.

At the end of the cable there is a European angled plug with earthing (type CEE 7/7), the connections are reinforced. The filter is designed for use in typical Russian and European AC networks with characteristics of 220-250 V, 50/60 Hz.

On the front panel there is a key switch at the top, which opens not only the “phase”, but also the “zero”. There are three indicators nearby: work (white) – indicates the presence of current in the filter sockets, ground (green) – lights up if the connection is made to a grounded socket, as well as surge protection (red) – indicates that the characteristics of the current in the network correspond to the norm. The indicators have a small brightness, do not hit the eyes.

Power supply
The charging module is based on the SD8666QS controller. The USB Type-C port supports Power Delivery (20W) fast-charging technology, providing 5, 9, or 12V at 1.67 to 3A current. Three USB Type-A connectors provide 2.0A current. 4 A at 5 V. Connected devices are automatically recognized, allowing you to charge your devices as quickly as possible without damaging them. It also has overload protection. The current is stable, without dips or jumps. All ports can be used simultaneously, but the total current is limited to 6A (30W).

Protection
Each of the eight CEE 7/4 Euro sockets has a protective shutter that prevents dust from entering inside and physical contact with current-carrying elements. Ports are angled for easy installation of massive power supplies. The plugs can be inserted and removed with one hand. There is built-in protection against overloads, short circuits, and surges. The device also has a built-in high-frequency noise filter. The protections work for both the plugs and the power supply.

conclusion
With Harper UCH-650, you can correctly organize the power of all electrical appliances in the room, and a large number of protective technologies ensure safety during use. The built-in power supply allows you to recharge many modern smartphones at a speed that is not less than their native memory, while restoring power to less demanding consumers, such as watches or electronic books.
