A TikTok spokesperson called the claim “complete fiction” and declined to comment further. Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, did not respond to the rumors. A Bloomberg report suggested that in such a scenario, Musk’s company X (formerly Twitter) could run TikTok’s US operations.

TikTok faces a potential ban in the US under the Protecting Americans from Foreign Controlled Practices Act, which will take effect on January 19. The law requires ByteDance to sell its stake in TikTok or face a nationwide ban.
