Microsoft will implement a function that will make Windows a more secure operating system. The latest update will require user authorization to increase the permissions of an unsigned app. This technology aims to prevent untrusted applications from gaining access to make changes to your computer.
According to a post on the Windows blog, the latest version of Windows 11 Insider includes a feature that protects our computer. build 27774available on the Canary channel, implements Administrator protectionfunction to protect privileged access to the operating system. This function will prompt the user for a password before granting elevated permissions to the application.
Administrator protection can be enabled in Windows security settingsby going to the “Account Protection” tab. Once activated, the system will display a pop-up window asking for a password for the local administrator account. Microsoft notes that this message is caused by untrusted and unsigned applications.
Function This is similar to User Account Control (UAC), a feature designed to prevent unauthorized changes to Windows. This is triggered when an action requires administrator level permissions and displays a popup asking you to approve or reject the change. Unlike UAC, the admin protection coming in the next Windows 11 update requires a password.
The changes are part of the Windows Resiliency Initiative, Microsoft’s strategy to strengthen the security of the operating system. Admin protection was first shown during Ignite 2024 as solution for end users and corporate clients. Microsoft wants to make sure you’re the one authorizing the changes, so you’ll need to use Windows Hello authentication.
The good news is that This feature will also be offered in the most basic version of Windows 11.. The home version is usually the least fortunate in terms of admin and security tools, but that won’t be the case with admin protection.

Administrator protection is available in Windows 11 Insider build 27774. Those interested in accessing it must sign up for the Insider program and select the Canary channel to be able to install it as a system update. It’s worth noting that this Windows build is pre-release and may contain bugs, so if you install it, you do so at your own risk.
