TikTok is already offline in the United States this Sunday (19). The access blackout comes after the US Supreme Court ruled on Friday (17) that the application ban was constitutional.

When accessing TikTok, users encounter the following message: “Sorry, TikTok is not available at this time. A law has been passed in the USA banning TikTok. Unfortunately, this means you cannot use TikTok for now.”

The law that provides this Banning the app was approved with bipartisan support in the US Congress. It blocks US companies from hosting or publishing content on TikTok, which is owned by ByteDance, a Chinese company.

However, the unavailability of the application may be short-term. The elected president Donald Trump stated that he should postpone the TikTok ban for 90 days after taking office – this will happen on Monday (20). It’s worth noting that TikTok CEO Shou Chew met with Trump at his home a few weeks ago and is expected to attend Trump’s inauguration on Monday.

He was the president of the USA Joe Biden approved the law that could lead to the ban of TikTok in the USA. The announcement took place in April 2024.

The bill was initially conceived as a financial aid package for US-allied countries. However, after the revision, the text now includes national security measures: Ban on services provided by Chinese companies.

Since the arrival of the new law, TikTok’s parent company ByteDance has reportedly stated that it would prefer to shut down the app in the US rather than sell it to a local company. It looks like the rumor has been confirmed.
