“Today a hacker attack was carried out on the infrastructure of the contractor Rostelecom. It did not affect the “State Services” in any way. All data on the portal is under reliable protection,” the message said.
It also says that no sensitive personal data of the clients of the operator’s contracting company was included in the network. “Internet resources mentioned in anonymous messages are not intended to serve individual customers. No personal data is stored or processed in them,” said the Ministry of Digital Development.
The ministry added that to protect its infrastructure, Rostelecom uses a tiered approach, while the operator’s information security specialists were not responsible for the contractor’s systems.
Currently, the Ministry of Digital Development and Rostelecom are working to strengthen the protection of the attacked part of the infrastructure. “All necessary measures have been taken and a detailed investigation is underway,” the department said.
Previously, on January 21, the Telegram channel “Information Leaks” wrote that the hacker group Silent Crow announced that Rostelecom had been hacked. The attackers reported that they downloaded databases from the websites company.rt.ru and zakupki.rostelecom.ru, and as proof provided tables with 154 thousand unique email addresses and 101 thousand unique phone numbers.
Commenting on this message, Rostelecom stated that the data breach could have occurred in the contractor’s infrastructure. The operator recommended that site users reset their account passwords and enable two-factor identification.
