This Stargate project will have a guaranteed investment of up to $500 billion.
What is Stargate about?
The new company, called The Stargate Project, was announced at the White House by Donald Trump, who called it “the largest artificial intelligence infrastructure project in history.”
The company, which began operations before Trump took office, announced that $100 billion in funding would be available immediately and the rest would be committed over four years, creating an estimated 100,000 jobs.
They’re creating this strange coalition of tech companies to build data centers and create new artificial intelligence infrastructure, helped by Trump and the US government. And all this new investment in AI will presumably lead to the creation of tools that will help the average person.
What Trump and the tech moguls said
- Donald Trump: “Together, these world-leading tech giants are announcing the creation of Stargate, so put this name in your books because I think you’ll be hearing a lot about it in the future. “A new American company that invests at least $500 billion in artificial intelligence infrastructure in the United States and very, very quickly… will move very quickly, almost immediately creating more than 100,000 American jobs.”
- Sam Altman: “I think this will be the most important project of this era. “We couldn’t do this without you, Mr. President,” he added, giving credit to Trump even though work on the project is already underway.
- Masayoshi Sonof Softbank, called it “the beginning of our golden age.” AND Larry Ellisonfrom Oracle called it “a very interesting program.”
Other technology partners include British chipmaker Arm, US chipmaker Nvidia and Microsoft, which already has a partnership with OpenAI.
