“Most of the time, the attackers send files accompanied by the question:” Are you the one who appears in the video? “The word” video “is also used in different variations in the name of the file,” said the ministry .
They pointed out that when opening a file, the application is installed, after which the device can be infected with the Trojan Mamont, who reads push notifications, SMS messages and photos of the gallery. According to the Interior Ministry, the virus is also able to automatically send a malicious file to all the contacts of the Messenger.
“The final objective of the attackers is to obtain access to the means of payment, but the personal data and any information contained in a smartphone can also be used for illegal purposes,” the department added.
Kaspersky Lab previously reported on the use of Trojan Mamont by scammers. According to experts, the attackers disguised the malicious file as an Android application “for package monitoring.”
