According to the qualification, according to the results of last month, Telegram is in fifth in the most visited Internet resources in Russia, while YouTube is in the sixth. In the same period of 2024, the video accommodation was in the third place of the Mediascope qualification with more than 95.5 million visitors, while Telegram was in the sixth of 83.7 million users. Also in January 2025, the Telegram audience grew compared to December 2024 for more than 2 million people.
In addition to Telegram and YouTube, the most visited by the Russians of the Internet platforms in January 2025 were Yandex (102.3 million visits per month), Google (101 million), WhatsApp (97.5 million), Vkontakte (93.9 million).
YouTube began to decrease in Russia at the end of July 2024. In Roskomnadzor, the deterioration of the work of the American videos accommodation was explained by the fact that Google “stopped supporting the infrastructure of its storage servers in cache in our networks of communication”. The company said they know about the problems with YouTube’s work in Russia, but emphasized that “this is not the result of problems or technical actions on our part.”
During the direct line, Vladimir Putin said on December 19 that YouTube and Google will be able to work in Russia if local laws are observed and will not participate in propaganda. At the same time, he recalled that Russian platforms are ready to compete with video accommodation: VK, Telegram and Rutube. “A sacred place is not empty,” said the president.
