According to the Engadget portal, the error can be used by attacking a “sophisticated attack”. However, to run this vulnerability, the attacker must have physical access to the device. The USB limited mode is introduced in iOS 11.4.1 and if it is not opened within an hour, it prevents access to the device through USB accessories.
The idea was to defend “law enforcement officers”. Apple did not explain this security gap for who or for what purpose. Bill Marchak, a security researcher at the University of Citizen Lab Toronto, announced a defect “sold by the governments of a company working with Cybervy”.
It is recommended to install the iOS 18.3.1 update to ensure the safety of the device.
