“When we see the business opportunity, we will try to take it for it,” said De Meo, answering the question of the publication about returning to Russia. According to him, the company is now working to accelerate the launch of its electric and hybrid cars. This is necessary to meet the EU requirements for harmful emissions that will soon come into force.

After Renault’s departure from Russia in two weeks, the company’s shares fell between 30 and 35%, De Meo recalled. “Everyone said we die,” he added. At the same time, in 2024, the company reported a strong increase in income. Amounted to 56.2 billion euros (+7.4%) and operational profits – 2,485 billion euros (+3.7%). At the same time, the net profit decreased from 2.2 billion to 752 million euros. The indicator was affected by the negative effect of the sale of Nissan shares and the deterioration of Renault’s investment in the Japanese manufacturer.

Renault’s income from Russian business before leaving the market was a tenth of the general turnover. In 2022, the concern sold the Russian plant and 68% in Avtovaz. The transaction provided an option for a return to the country for six years.

At the same time, Russia does not expect the brands of foreign cars who died with open arms, said Anton Alikhanov, head of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce of the Russian Federation. “Everything will have to be paid for everything, for all their behavior,” said the minister (appointment for Ria Novosti).
