The results of the study published in the BMC Public Health Journal showed: People with tattoos are more frequently diagnosed with skin cancer and lymphoma compared to those who do not draw in the body.

The lymph nodes are an important part of the immune system. They help to fight infections and filter harmful substances. When tattoo ink penetrates the skin, the part is absorbed to the lymph nodes. Experts are worried that this ink may cause chronic inflammation in lymph nodes. Over time, it leads to abnormal cell growth and increasing risk of cancer.

A new work was based on the Danish twin tattoo cohort. Including information about more than 5900 Danish twins.

The results have shown that the connection between tattoos and cancer is the clearest among people with large tattoos (more palms).
