Sprout is a soft robot that can grow in narrow spaces and maneuver, surrounding obstacles. In emergencies, it is designed to explore optimum paths through blockages and to be used when it is necessary to find it. This robot can work effectively under conditions where other technologies cannot cope.
Sprout’s main feature is the ability to adapt flexible to the situation. The robot consists of an inflatable swelling tube using a motor. Such a design allows him to overcome narrow passages and move along the ways of wrapping, and the camera mounted on the tip helps to challenge the area and search for survivors.
Robot management technology allows operators to redirect using joysticks and collect data on the state’s state’s situation. Sprout can already return 3 meters, but in the future it plans to increase the length of the team to 7.5 meters.
The scientists team developed a simulator that helps to improve algorithms and test the robot in real conditions to model destruction. The results of the tests performed with the participation of rescuers made it possible to improve robot and increase the effectiveness.
