Perm National Research Policy University (PNIPU) experts created a unique program that enabled you to evaluate carbon dioxide emissions more accurately during the transportation of solid municipal wastes. According to the press service of the university, this development takes into account the characteristics of the work of garbage trucks that usually cause additional emissions due to idle, stops or motor heating.

The transportation industry is one of the major sources of greenhouse gases and says that existing emission calculators do not take into account the characteristics of the work of garbage trucks. The new PNIPU program analyzes parameters such as type and fuel consumption, idle time, machine loading, climatic conditions, and even a way of movement.

Researchers emphasize that their programs take into account all moments when the engine burns the fuel, including the installation and unloading process. These points can be up to 35% of the total emissions. Development has already been tested on local data that enables logistics to optimize and select more environmentally friendly fuel types for garbage trucks.
