It has been reported that the Department of Homeland Security uses tools such as Venntel and Locate X, which process location data from common applications installed on American smartphones. In particular, MVB’s Investigation Service used these services.

It was noted that after the data were obtained from a private enterprise, law enforcement officers used it without permission. And this can be interpreted as a violation.

So the police got information about the location of people, drugs and weapons. This information is said to be for criminal investigations and not for immigration control.
