The popularity and prevalence of Android makes the operating system a constant target for hackers and malicious programmers. So much so that sometimes malware-infected apps even manage to bypass Google Play’s security and end up on Google’s official mobile store. ESET is publishing a list of 20 of them containing spyware known as Joker.
The company specializing in digital security explains that the spyware is also known as Bread and can perform malicious functions on the infected cell phone, such as intercepting incoming SMS, spreading advertisements and using registered accounts to subscribe to premium services.
According to ESET, the following apps were on Google Play between April and June this year and were infected by the Joker – PDF Scanner Reader has been downloaded by five thousand users, according to the company.
