Despite its name, FSD does not make the vehicle fully autonomous as it requires constant control from the driver. But that doesn’t save you from traffic violations: Cars ran red lights, changed lanes into oncoming traffic, and ignored road signs. NHTSA is investigating 58 complaints, including 14 crashes and 23 injuries, focusing specifically on six red light crashes and incidents near railroad crossings.
Although Tesla recently released an update for FSD, the NHTSA investigation could still lead to vehicle recalls or restrictions on Autopilot functionality. The company’s shares fell 2.1% following the news.
