To set up a recovery contact, just follow these simple steps. First and most important: Make sure the person you choose is someone you know and trust.. This could be a family member or your best friend, although they will need a registered Google account.

1. Open your Google account.
2. Press Security and Access.
3. Under How to access Google, click Contacts for recovery.
4. Press Add recovery contact.
5. Enter your trusted contact’s email address and click Send request.

Your contact will then receive a notification of your request with your personal information. It is extremely important to respond to the notice as the request is only valid for 7 days. After this time has passed, you must start the process again to send a new notification to a particular contact.

It’s important to note that recovery contacts are not the same as recovery email addresses. Recovery contacts will be available from today for all usersexcluding Google Workspace accounts and those participating in the Advanced Protection Program.
