The ban came after a court ruling in Amsterdam suspended Nexperia’s Chinese CEO Zhang Xuezheng from his position. The company’s chips are critical for automakers around the world, and if exports continue to be blocked, there could be a global shortage of parts within weeks.

Nijmegen-based Nexperia has been owned by Chinese Wingtech since 2019 and has a large factory in China that produces around 50 billion chips a year. These chips cannot leave the country anymore.

China claims the Dutch decision was made under US pressure, but Karremans denies this. However, the documents show that the US contacted the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs about the “Zhang situation”.
