Previously, the company removed these functions from its electric vehicles, which caused a wave of criticism from owners. Until now, cars with internal combustion engines have retained the ability to connect to a smartphone via CarPlay or Android Auto, but now GM plans to create its own multimedia system. It must replace external services.

The new system will run on Android and include Google’s Gemini voice assistant, as well as custom apps developed by GM and its partners.

A full transition to a single digital platform is planned for 2028.
