China provided more than half of the world’s green car sales. Based on the results of the first half of 2022, China’s share was 59%, only every ninth car powered by renewable energy sources was purchased in the US.

More than half of global green car sales come from China

The China Passenger Car Manufacturers Association shared information on the volumes and country shares of green vehicle sales in the first half of 2022 with Chevpost.

In the first half of 2022, China gained a 59% share of global renewable energy vehicle sales. The eurozone accounted for every fourth sale of such a car, the US – every ninth.

China has been increasing its share of global electric vehicle sales for several years in a row. In 2020, 41% of all cars sold during this period were purchased in China, in 2021 – 52%. Experts attributed China’s leadership in this segment to high market demand and stable supply.

In the first half of 2022, 4.24 million vehicles were sold worldwide using new energy sources: electric, hybrid or hydrogen vehicles. During this period, 2.5 million of these vehicles were purchased in China.
