In an interview, when asked about the theoretical occupation, Liu replied, “No one can forcefully control TSMC.” He added that if the military tried to take over TSMC’s factories, they would become “unusable”.

This is due to the inherent complexity of the manufacturing process. Liu said they are committed to being connected to global supply chains in the US, Europe and Japan. It is these connections that empower the factory with materials, chemicals, diagnostic software and more. China also depends on TSMC, which it says accounts for 10 percent of its exports. He noted that TSMC is only interested in the Chinese consumer market, not the military.
