The problems of the pulp and paper industry in the United States became the official explanation for the delay in the publication of the memoirs of the American singer Britney Spears. There is material to publish, but the scarcity of paper prevents meeting the deadlines set in the February agreement with Simon & Schuster.

The crisis in the pulp industry has become an obstacle for Britney Spears

The memoir’s release has been delayed “indefinitely,” though the star has already received a $15 million advance for the book, according to TMZ.

The publication recalls that it is one of the largest agreements in the field of memoir publication (the total amount of the contract is not known, but it is still less than the 60 million dollars that Barack Obama received for his memoirs in Penguin Random House).

Simon & Schuster isn’t the only US publisher struggling with the paper. The shortage was initially driven by increased demand for print books during the pandemic, and has now been exacerbated by mass layoffs of pulp and paper mill workers.

In Russia, the crisis in the paper industry is due to other factors.

After the imposition of sanctions, due to the lack of foreign chemicals on the market, the verification tape ran out and some companies were forced to introduce new rules for printing documents in the office (duplex printing only!).

And then unbleached paper appeared, which the Ministry of Industry and Trade hastily supplied with the prefix “eco” and declared useful for human eyes, in contrast to bleached paper.
