Ozon will pay compensation to sellers for goods damaged in a warehouse fire in the Moscow region at the end of September. Payments will be made in installments, a market representative told RB.RU.

For now, the site will take inventory and account for overages and returns.

The company will calculate the amount of compensation as if the goods had been sold on August 3. The sales commission will be deducted from its value, as well as the standard expenses, for example, accommodation.

Deliveries that were already on their way to the warehouse in New Riga will be redirected to other warehouses; vendors will be personally notified of where the products will be located.

The Ozon warehouse in New Riga in the Moscow region caught fire on August 3, the building almost completely burned down: the fire area was 55 thousand square meters, part of the roof collapsed. 11 people were injured, two were hospitalized. Information about the dead was not confirmed.

The main versions of what happened are arson and a malfunction of electrical equipment. Insurance companies estimated the damage from the fire at 10 billion rubles.

Updated at 15:28 Moscow time: Ozon is still assessing the exact amount of economic damage from the incident, but says “there are no significant risks to liquidity and operations.”

The question of compensation for damages is decided by the company with the insurers. Goods in the warehouse, equipment (mezzanines, shelving systems, sorters, loaders) are insured for up to 11 billion rubles. Ozon’s liability is also insured in case of damage to life, health and property of third parties for one billion rubles.
