Operators Tim, Vivo and Claro were briefed on the fulfillment of 5G-related obligations and commitments signed by the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) at the fifth-generation mobile networks auction in November 2021.
In a note, Anatel reported that there have been no breaches by the operators for the time being. They have until September 29 to implement 5G SA (standalone) at 3.5 GHz in Brazilian capitals, an extended deadline to clear the group. The implementation schedule targets by the end of 2029 to have 100% of municipalities covered.
Anatel may open a Non-Compliance Detection Procedure (Pado) if the companies do not comply with the measures specified in the tender after the deadline. The agency should also check that “plans sold comply with SMP (personal mobile service) rules.”
Anatel explains in the notice that a Monitoring and Control Process (PAC) has been opened. In practice, service and coverage failures can only be investigated after the deadline of 29 September.
The 5G signal has already been activated in Brasília, Porto Alegre, Belo Horizonte, João Pessoa and reached the city of São Paulo on Thursday (4). Anatel reports that the minimum number of antennas installed is easily exceeded by operators that already have expansion plans for more space.
Users who are already using the technology bring different experience reports. Some already reach speeds close to 1 Gbps in downloads, while others experience slower speeds. This is a difference regarding smartphone compatibility in a nutshell.
