Ever since the smartphone came into our lives, drivers have had to learn to avoid the temptation to look at it while driving. No matter how many messages we receive, we know that browsing can end in an accident.
Despite this, there are drivers who do not leave their mobile phones even in the city center when the traffic is more dangerous. For this reason, the General Directorate of Traffic decided to increase the penalties for manipulating a smartphone while driving: 6 card points, which is soon said.
For a week now, any driver who manipulates his mobile phone (however justified the situation) is being fined by the traffic police and deducting points from his license, so we must be more careful than ever.
But does that mean we can’t have a phone in plain sight? Not really. The Directorate General of the Road allows drivers to keep their smartphone in sight as it is used today for many aspects of driving. For example, GPS.
Okay, DGT allows us to see (rather than manipulate) the mobile phone while driving.. Now how? Carry it in an approved carrier inside the vehicle. it does not pose a danger to driving and does not prevent us from having a clear view of the road.
In order for support to be approved, they explain at El Confidencial, it must be located in the toolbar using approved support. And there are three models that:
- Magnetic support that adapts to any mobile phone with magnets.
- Attachment system to the car CD-module.
- With a clip attached to the dashboard.
It means that, under no circumstances should you use supports that are glued to the windshield of the car, as the glass suction cups can be easily detached due to heat or cold. Which could endanger the driver if it happens while driving.
DGT reminds us that if we urgently need to use the phone, we just need to stop the car in a place where it can be parked.
