In the future, you could use smart chopsticks to eat Asian food, and now Japanese researchers have invented a kind of chopsticks that make food taste much tastier without us having to add much salt.

And the fact is that the average Japanese consumes more than 10 grams of salt per day, which is almost double the recommendation of the World Health Organization, which over time causes lifestyle diseases such as hypertension and chronic kidney disease.

That is why researchers from Meiji University in Japan, they teamed up with food and beverage company Kirin Holdings to invent a kind of chopsticks that increase the production of salinity in food. To do this, these chopsticks use electrical signals to improve the taste of food.

The fact is that sodium chloride ions give the products salinity, and monosodium glutamate ions – sweetness. Thus, by sending a weak electric charge along with food, the researchers they wanted to change the perception of tastealthough dietary salt levels were comparatively lower.

That’s why they designed these smart chopsticks. capable of delivering light load and controlled by a minicomputer located on the owner’s bracelet.

The researchers explain to The Guardian that “the device ionizes the sodium in the food, creating additional salinity, even if the total amount of salt in the food is low“.

To prove that everything works perfectly, they recruited 36 volunteers and gave them samples of products that contain the usual amount of salt and a reduced amount of salt.

Interestingly, when eating with electric chopsticks, both samples of food were perceived as equally tasty.

In conclusion, during the study they achieved a 30% reduction in salt content without loss of taste, so these chopsticks will make our meals completely delicious without the need to add more salt than usual.
