Sony beat Microsoft by half in sales of branded set-top boxes. Microsoft sold 58.5 million Xbox Ones over the course of its launch, while Sony sold more than 117 million PlayStation 4s. The difference in sales became known after Microsoft reported console sales for the first time in seven years.
Microsoft’s report caught the attention of The Verge.
The report claims that Microsoft sold 58.5 million Xbox Ones. In March of this year, Sony reported more than 117 million PlayStation 4s sold.
“Sony outsold Microsoft in console sales, selling more than double the last generation of consoles,” Microsoft said in a report.
Microsoft did not disclose information on sales of branded consoles for seven years, releasing only information on Xbox Live results. Since March 2022, Sony has also not released PlayStation 4 sales figures.
The publication noted that Microsoft also surpassed Japan’s Nintendo in console sales, selling 111 million Nintendo Switch units.
