The Bank of Russia issued a rectangular coin for the first time in seven years. Its nominal value is 3 rubles, the circulation is 3 thousand pieces, the weight is 31 grams of 925 silver. The “Care for Tigers” coin has already entered circulation and is dedicated to the Amur Tiger Conservation Forum, which will take place in September.
The press service of the Bank of Russia announced the issue of the commemorative coin.
The rectangular shaped coin is made of 925 sterling silver, weighs 31.1 grams, has a length of 51 mm and a width of 32 mm. Its obverse features the logo of the international tiger conservation forum, which will be held in September on Russky Island in Vladivostok. 3 thousand coins were put into circulation, their face value is 3 rubles.
“The Russian Far East is currently home to the largest population of Amur tigers. Therefore, Russia is interested in maintaining international cooperation to conserve the tiger’s range,” the Bank of Russia noted.
The last time the Central Bank issued rectangular coins was in 2015 in honor of the launch of the first plastic cards of the Russian Mir payment system. Previously, the Bank of Russia issued rectangular coins for the 2014 Sochi Olympics. The coins were made of gold and silver and depicted the Olympic Games mascots: a polar bear, a hare and a leopard.
