The NSO Group announced on its website on Sunday that “a company-wide restructuring will look at all aspects of its business.” As a starting point, CEO and creator of the notorious spyware Pegasus, Shalev Hulio quitstransfers the group’s operations – including restructuring – to current COO Yaron Shohat.
According to the New York publication, the changes will allow NSO’s operations to focus primarily on NATO countries and will likely be the result of pressure from Western governments and other technology companies.
Why will NSO Group downsize?
In November 2021, after journalists, activist groups, and opposition politicians from 50 countries reported spying on their smartphones, including the UK and the US, the Joe Biden government decided to involve the NSO in its gruesome plan. “Entity List”practically prohibits American companies from doing business with the Israeli company.
A few days after the ban, Apple filed a lawsuit against the Pegasus manufacturer and was held directly responsible for spying on Apple devices by various governments around the world. Therefore, Big Tech wants to ban it in court using the spyware developer’s products in future research.
Despite the crisis, NSO Group is trying to keep up with appearances. Interim CEO Yaron Shohat said: “The company’s products continue to be in high demand by governments and law enforcement agencies for their cutting-edge technology and proven ability to assist these customers in the fight against crime and terrorism.” Even knowing that some customers are abusing the softwareguarantees that the technologies will be used for “legitimate and honorable purposes”.
