Scientists at the University of East Anglia concluded in a recent study that when a person hears the sound of a ball, their brain expects to see it. But that’s not all. It turns out that due to activity in certain areas of the brain, it allows a person to imagine what they will feel when they touch the ball.

10 people participated in the new study. All listened to the sounds that occur when a person interacts with various objects. These included bouncing the ball, crumpling the paper, banging on the door, and typing on the keyboard.

Researcher According to Kerry Bailey, they were able to find that areas of the brain that were previously thought to be activated only when objects are touched are actually activated when a person listens to the sounds associated with such a touch.

All findings from the study have been published in the scientific journal Cerebral Cortex.
