Ericsson will close its representative office in Russia by the end of 2022 and lay off all employees, including their technical support in the network, Kommersant’s sources say.

Ericsson confirmed that “as it fulfills its obligations to customers” in the coming months, the company will gradually phase out activities in Russia, promising a “financial and sustainable assessment.”

Ericsson’s largest customers in Russia were MTS and Tele2. In March 2020, MTS invested 10 billion rubles in upgrading the network to 5G based on Ericsson equipment. Tele2 in May last year agreed with Ericsson to purchase 50,000 basic chairs for network development in 27 regions.

Ericsson can separate the support service into an independent legal entity, the founders of which will be the Russian top management.

Operators themselves have learned to operate networks without technical support from Ericsson. Problems with the purchase of spare parts and the release of software updates. [Коммерсантъ]
