According to scientific data, on average, the older a person is, the less likely they are to see other perspectives or learn something new. So, actually, the older we are, the more limited we are.

In addition, neuroticism (anxiety) decreases in the elderly and they become more adaptable. Therefore, in general, older people are generally calmer, friendlier, more reliable, and pleasant than younger people. Also, in a Swiss study involving people over the age of 80, it is said that such people are distinguished by an astonishing self-control and indifference to old age (i.e. a kind of “old calm”).

There is another point of view among experts. It consists in the fact that (according to psychoanalyst Eric Erickson) a person aged 65 and over is engaged in a kind of psychological battle between despair and honesty.

The expert states that if the elderly perceive their lives with disappointment and regret, despair will win this battle. Older people who accept and accept that they have done everything they can in life and find it meaningful can get rid of this feeling of pain.
