Iranian car brands Iran Khodro and Saipa with Tara and Shahin models may appear in Russia. In five years, they can take up to 10% of the car market, experts from Otkritie Avto predicted.

These companies have the opportunity to become an alternative to “popular” brands in the affordable segment, for example, AvtoVAZ. This will be possible after the organization of local production and state support, reports the Prime agency.

Iran Khodro and Saipa brought two versions of new products to the Moscow auto show, both sedans, experts said.

The new Iran Khodro Tara sedan is built on the basis of the Peugeot 301 platform. The model is slightly larger than the Kia Rio, and the Hyundai Solaris, equipped with a 1.6-liter engine with 113 horsepower, rests on a 6-speed automatic transmission that accelerates the sedan to 190 km / h.

Saipa also introduced the four-door Shahin, which is based on the old Toyota platform from the 1990s. The dimensions of the model are in the dimensions of the listed Korean car manufacturers, the engine is a 1.5-liter turbo with a capacity of 110 horsepower.

In July, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed a decree on a temporary simplified procedure for importing cars from abroad. The clause equipping the vehicle with the ERA-GLONASS system was removed from the mandatory requirements.

The simplified registration procedure will be in effect until February 1, 2023. It is assumed that, at this point, manufacturers “will be able to reconfigure supply chains.”
