Amazon’s most expensive series, The Lord of the Rings: The Ring of Power, has just been released.

At the moment, only 2 episodes have been released, according to which you can already add up the first impression. And already opinions are divided. Critics praise the novelty and take its points, while the audience vice versa.

On this basis, Amazon even banned viewer ratings in the next 3 days. The company believes that the haters greatly underestimate the rating. I’m not sure that’s exactly the case.

Personally, I was waiting for this series, I didn’t care about the agenda – as long as they did it well. What happened in the end? Let’s figure it out.

Return to Middle-earth

Let’s immediately discard the question of the racial affiliation of the actors. Amazon immediately said that the series does not take place in Tolkien’s universe, but in a parallel one.

The excuse is weak, but partially counted.

In the series, this lacks flaws both in canon and in general execution. Let’s start with the plot.

What is the series about: the story begins with the murder of the brother of the elf Galadriel. The mark of the mighty dark wizard Sauron remained on him, and she wants to take revenge on him. But everything happens so simply and linearly, as if.

The action itself evokes action a millennium before The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, based on J. R. R. Tolkien’s feelings about Middle-earth. The series begins in a time of relative peace and champions all the major events of the Second Age of Middle-earth: the beginning of the twenty Rings of Power, the rise of Sauron, the fall of the island kingdom of Numenor, and the final union of elves and humans.

The first questions are caused by the film adaptation itself. The plot is not based on Tolkien’s books at its core, they were taken only as inspiration and general atmosphere. Here is the same story, which bit by bit takes certain events, as well as tastes from the original.

In general, the story is original. The reason for this is that there are no rights to all books. So the author had to get out in his own way.

Anyway, there is a basis. There are central characters, the main idea. Everything is as it should be. And it was done to a high standard. But not nearly as high as you’d expect. During the event, for now.

Each episode goes at a leisurely pace (and lasts an hour), and this can scare you from the very first frame. Even the action-packed moments are perceived measuredly and not hyperdynamically. But this is not such a minus, in fact. With each new 20-minute disclosure of new details of the plot, the phenomena are revealed a little better.

Although, of course, the results may be different. Especially in the part of Galadriel, who was made a warlike and self-confident elf. From the second episode, it will be shown with other sides.

Though it’s hard for Galadriel herself to face Peter Jackson’s laid-back original. it completely different personalities and actresses. And it reproduces exactly the “serial” version of the heroine.

Yes, what is there, some races have also been redone. The same elves no longer exist as wise and gutting creatures, and the dwarves felt much more stupid.

You can get mad at absolutely everything. But, you know, I personally don’t want to. They are organized in this universe, although they are strongly knocked out of the canon.

As for the plot itself, here I personally did not like the half-empty dialogues. They take the lion’s share of the time, but they do not carry any meaning.

They do not require a more detailed study of history. And almost half of them.

The atmosphere is really captivating

What the writers of the script have really succeeded in doing is creating a reversible and fabulous fantasy MCU itself.

Authentic costumes, landscapes, chamber locations and much more. Especially, of course, panoramas catch the eye. Feature in the opening meeting.

A history of neatness embedded in the build and excessive sightings of the lack of observation, mountains, caves and possessions. And it is the picture that plays with the viewer, further fueling interest in viewing.

Fighting scenes look spectacular, lively and natural. However, it is important to note here that it would look perfect if I did not know about the budget of the script.

Claims to the lazy approach of the authors to the manifestations are gradually accumulating for me a lot. I don’t know what will happen next, but the same snow troll and wolf from the first episode did not look like the budget of the most expensive episode in history.

there are enough such flaws, and it is a little depressing. Nothing serious.

But I really want to say “thank you” to the composer Bear McCreery, known for the music for the Battlestar Galactica and the game God of War. He did his job 100 points. His soundtrack is remembered and stored in the head for a long time.

In general, the musical component here is excellent. It helps to clearly understand what is happening on the screen and try new emotions.

Let’s give it a chance

The first impression of the new “Woasteline of the Rings” is currently very controversial.

It seems that the authors try and show respect for the original. But expectations are too high, of course the cast and the budget. And in the first two episodes, they do not justify themselves at all. It feels like it worked out better.

I hope that in the remaining 6 episodes it will be really better.
