Yesterday, Apple announced the iPhone 14 with satellite connectivity from Globalstar.

Against this backdrop, Elon Musk said his company had “some promising conversations with Apple about Starlink connectivity.” He added that the iPhone team is super smart and that Starlink satellites were used to emulate cell towers.

Apple has not yet confirmed or denied this information. The company has not previously reported contacts with Starlink.

Second-generation Starlink satellites in low Earth orbit pair with T-Mobile’s 5G mid-band spectrum for “nearly full coverage” in most cases. Thus, all current smartphones can connect to this network via 5G.

Apple’s satellite communications feature is linked to predictive situations and is used to track messages to emergency personnel so that iPhone users can get help wherever they are.
