The first thought that may come to someone’s mind when they first see the Hebrew and Arabic script is, “This is not appropriate!” It is possible. However, one user of the iXBT.com portal says there is a perfectly logical explanation for this.
The writing style used in most of the world’s languages is derived from the ancient Egyptian papyrus script. People carved their letters onto papyrus with a thin knife.
Most of us are right handed, so we hold any instrument in our right hand, so the right hand covers the one to the right of what is written. Therefore, it was written on the papyrus from left to right, so that it was convenient to see which letters came out.
But Arabic and Hebrew scripts have already originated from ancient Babylonian cuneiform techniques. That is, hieroglyphs in this case were carved on a stone with a chisel. Moreover, the hammer was in his right hand, and the chisel – in the left. As a result, the writing was clearly visible on the left side, but the right side was covered.
